To All LSYSA Clubs in the Coastal Region:
On behalf of the 2009-2010 LSYSA Board, I want to take this time to welcome all of your teams to what I think will be an exciting year of club youth soccer in the coastal region. There has been much speculation as to the direction of LSYSA and I am here to assure you that my staff at Lowcountry Soccer and I will work very hard this year to help these new board members provide the best possible club league in South Carolina. We all share in the vision of growing this youth soccer league with passion, dedication and a commitment to foster the positive development of our aspiring young soccer players.
Please take a moment to review the Calendar and time line for deadlines, meetings, tournaments, etc..
There are several new developments that make this year special:
- LSYSA is no longer just a "Rec" youth soccer league. It has become a "Club" youth soccer league that caters to all levels of play from U9 - U12 and up to classic level in the U13-14 age groups.
- Local clubs such as Mt. Pleasant SC, Summerville SC, Daniel Island SC, James Island YSC, Hilton Head-Blufton SC, Coastal United FC and others with Academy programs have committed their teams to more localized league play this fall & spring by playing LSYSA soccer. It will take 1-2 seasons for the scheduling of these matches to get settled into regular league play.
- To help enable the Academy level teams, the league has gone to dual year age group in the U11-12 divisions. This way a good U11 team can be challenged by playing in the Blue (II) or Gold (I) U12 division, for example. Having (3) levels of U11-12 will allow for more parity.
- LSYSA has committed itself to offering U13-14 boys and girls divisions as a natural progression of the progress made over the past two years. Due to the late start in announcing the fall season and its plans, most of the coastal region’s classic level teams already committed to play in the SCYSA President’s Medal League. We hope to attract many of these teams back to more regionalized play in the spring. This will be a dual year age group.
- From a scheduling standpoint, the league will stay away (as much as possible) from double headers. If teams are scheduled for (2) matches on a weekend, the 2nd match will be played on Sunday afternoon. This will enable coaches to focus their full attention to the single match without having to be concerned about the match later in the day.
- There will be no playoff this fall, so that the league can instead focus on a more festive season ending Spring event instead. Fall champions will be determined by league standings. The fall’s final standings will determine the movement of teams up or down for a more competitive spring season.
I look forward to serving your clubs this year,
Kenyon Cook
LSYSA Commissioner
